work is stressful.

Stress and anxiety are at an all-time high.

According to Statistics Canada, one in four Canadians cite stress as the reason for leaving their job. (Source: Global News, April 2018)

And a study led by the World Health Organization estimated that, without more treatment, 12 billion working days will be lost due to anxiety each year. The estimated cost to the global economy is $925 billion by 2030. (Source: The Guardian, August 2018)

While great strides have been made recently in talking about mental health, employers and employees still often don’t know how to deal with the effects of stress and anxiety in the workplace.

here’s how we can help.

Using our backgrounds in improvisation and occupational psychotherapy, we’ve created a program to help employers and employees deal with stressful situations quickly and effectively. And best of all, it’s fun.

Some key anxiety triggers we address include:

  • Job interviews

  • Job promotions

  • Giving a presentation

  • Handling unpleasant emotions/situations

  • Coming up with creative ideas in a short timeframe

Everyone talks about “work-life balance,” but there’s rarely time for that anymore. We’re talking about bringing more life to your work. Our workshops build skills like:

  • Compassion for self and others

  • Bringing your personal interests to your work

  • Effective communication skills

  • Flexible and realistic time management skills

Improvisation has been shown to:

  • Relieve stress and anxiety

  • Stimulate brain function and boost creativity

  • Improve relationships and your connection with others

  • Enhance your ability to take risks and try new things

  • Relax the body and keep you energized

  • Release endorphins (making you feel good) and boost the immune system

Cameron worked in advertising for 12 years and was an anxious person for 30+ years before overcoming it through improvisation. He founded the Improv for Anxiety program at Second City Toronto, was a Professor of Presentation Skills at Seneca College, and teaches people from all walks of life through his company, Play with Fire Improv. He likes bananas.

Together, these two practices can provide the awareness and skills to build resilience, self-awareness and strength to withstand today’s demands.
