Talk Good

“Given a choice, at a funeral most of us would rather be the one in the coffin than the one giving the eulogy.”
– Jerry Seinfeld

This course is for everyone who struggles to speak. Whether it’s a fear of saying the wrong thing, or blanking, or saying something stupid, you’ll learn fun improv techniques and exercises that can help. Over the six weeks, we’ll play with:

Conversations

“Forget public speaking, I can’t even talk to people I hang out with.” If that sounds like you, we’ll play with:

  • How to start a conversation
  • How to keep it going
  • How to end it
  • Reading the room
  • Listening, like really listening, not waiting to talk

Speaking Freely

We often don’t pick a side or make decisions, in case it ends up being the wrong decision. We’ll explore:

  • Speaking your mind
  • Having opinions
  • Making decisions
  • Finding your voice
  • Letting go of judgements

Group Play

Many of us feel responsible for how the conversation goes, or how good a presentation is, but it’s rarely just about you. This will help you see that you’re not alone. We’ll play with:

  • Presenting as a group
  • Support
  • Taking the lead
  • Building ideas together
  • Not doing it all alone

Delivery Techniques

Many of us say things quietly or mumbled so we’re not heard, that way we can’t say the wrong thing. We’ll learn:

  • It’s not what you say, but how you say it
  • Body language
  • Using our voice
  • Pausing and being comfortable with silence
  • Connecting with your audience

Fearless Public Speaking

Fear often keeps us from doing what we love, We’ll play with: How to handle the nerves

  • Breathing
  • Being okay with mistakes
  • What we really fear: embarrassment
  • Be okay with ourselves as we are

Play

Speaking can be fun. Having said that, let’s aim for getting to the point where it doesn’t feel like terror. We’ll help you find the joy, by playing with:

  • Not needing to be perfect
  • It’s okay to like what you do
  • What it’s like to see ourselves on camera
  • Developing your sense of humour
  • Having fun
